Best Smart Display 2026: Apple HomeView vs Echo Show 8 vs Nest Hub Max
Apple’s HomeView has crashed a party that Amazon and Google have been hosting for years. Picking the best smart display 2026 comes down to three contenders. The smart display market — countertop screens for video calls, smart home control, music, and recipes — is mature, competitive, and just got a serious new contender.
Here’s how Apple’s confirmed entry stacks up against the two reigning champions.

Display & Design
Echo Show 8 and Nest Hub Max use standard rectangular displays (8″ and 10″). The HomeView’s 7-inch Liquid Retina screen sits on a domed speaker base, echoing the beloved iMac G4.
Winner: Depends on taste. The dedicated wall-mount version is a genuine differentiator — neither competitor offers one natively.
Voice Assistant: Siri AI vs Alexa vs Google Assistant
- Alexa has the deepest smart home compatibility but Amazon’s AI upgrades have been slow.
- Google Assistant (transitioning to Gemini) is smartest at general knowledge.
- Siri AI ships as beta in HomeView software 27.2. Personal context requires an iPhone/iPad with Apple Intelligence.
Price & Value
At $299, the HomeView is the priciest — $120 more than Echo Show 8 (~$179) and $70 more than Nest Hub Max (~$229).
The Bottom Line
With face recognition for six, a wall-mount option, and Siri AI, HomeView just might own this category within a year.
